Moodle is an "open source" (free software) system similar to Blackboard. You can use it to perform many course-related activities online: post course documents, run discussion boards, facilitate student peer review, give quizzes, and much more!
While Moodle and Blackboard are similar to each other, they excel in different areas, so they provide nice complements to each other. Go to http://tltr.truman.edu/moodle/MoodleIntro.pdf to see some of the things that you can do with Moodle and to see a brief comparison of its abilities with Blackboard's.
For a more in-depth look at Moodle, peruse the teacher manual for Moodle at http://moodle.org/docs/teacher-manual.pdf .
If you'd like a Truman account with Moodle, you can sign up for one here.
If you are a Truman instructor,
use the form here to
let Chad Mohler, Moodle's administrator, know with which courses you would
like to use Moodle. The courses don't have to be ones you are teaching
this semester; you can even use a fictional course with Moodle, if
you like, just to try
Moodle
out.
Please let Chad Mohler know if you have any questions about Moodle.
